theory into practice

Tierney Houdek began sewing when she was 10 years old and hasn’t stopped since. She began sewing at age 10 and by the time she was in high-school was selling her original garments at local boutiques. In 2010 she took her first production job at St. Croix Knits in Winona, MN where she excelled at industrial looping, sewing and embroidery. After relocating to the Twin Cities in 2012 she worked at Sassy Knitwear, where sustainable fabrics are dyed in-house and garments are designed, cut, sewn and sold entirely out of their South Minneapolis storefront studio. She was already incorporating recycled materials into her own designs for many years at that point, and that experience furthered her drive to create ethically made clothing. That mindset is a cornerstone to her own clothing company Thraxis Threads, which she launched in 2016. She has done professional costuming for Tickle Torture and other stage performers, live theater, and editorial photoshoots. Pattern Development, sewing, and production assistant for Three Letter Acronym, a Minneapolis streetwear brand. Currently she has a collection of nearly 10 sewing machine in her home studio and will be graduating from the Apparel Technologies program at MCTC in summer 2018.

Now with 20 years experience, Tierney Houdek is pleased to share Thraxis with the world. Meaning “theory into practice,” Thraxis is more than a fashion brand; it’s a personal motto that informs our approach to life. It’s the mantra we say to ourselves when the going gets tough and we are not sure how to proceed. it is follow-through. Action. It is living a life of integrity.
